Due to Covid-19, many of us have transitioned into working remotely. It can definitely be difficult when you merge your work space and personal space. Here are some tips to give your work-life structure when working from home (WFH).
Do not work from your bed - Experts say, "Keeping computers, TVs, and work materials out of the room will strengthen the mental association between your bedroom and sleep." Try making a comfortable work space in your kitchen or create a makeshift desk in your living room.
Have a schedule - It's important to set boundaries for yourself. Wake up and sleep at the times you normally do when you go into the office.
Get ready - As much as we want to stay in our pajamas all day, I find changing into something that's put together but still comfortable helps me be more productive!
Eat well - It's much easier to go into your own kitchen and eat all of your quarantine snacks during breaks at home. Food is fuel. Fuel your body with good foods to help you focus and stay productive.
Take frequent breaks - Allow yourself time to take a break, walk outside, and stretch.
Stay in contact with your colleagues - Working remotely and stay at home orders will make us feel lonely and less connected. Schedule time with your colleagues to stay up to date on each other's projects.
Have a hard stop time - I find myself working longer when I WFH. I tell myself, okay, one more item to check off the list, okay just this last email... and before I know it, I've spent an extra 1-2 hours than I normally would if I was in the office. Set a timer on your laptop, when it rings, wrap things up and enjoy the rest of your day. Work life balance is key!
